This homemade dill ranch dip is a breeze to whip up, taking less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Taste-tested at a Super Bowl party, the winning combination of sour cream, Greek yogurt, mayo, and a blend of herbs and spices is super easy to make and perfect for dipping a variety of foods like veggies, fries, chicken tenders, and wings. Just mix the ingredients together in a bowl and you’re ready to enjoy a flavorful dip that’s sure to be a hit at any gathering or snack time.
If you’re not a fan of Hidden Valley Ranch, you’ve come to the right place.
This dill ranch dip is just that – heavily influenced by dried dill, as well as other herbs. While it’s not an exact match to something like Uncle Dan’s ranch seasoning, it’s much closer to that than Hidden Valley.
I tested several versions of this ranch dip at a Super Bowl party with friends and family – one with just sour cream and mayo, one with sour cream, mayo, and Greek yogurt, and one with just mayo and Greek yogurt. The one with all three was voted the favorite, so that’s what’s included in this recipe.
However, the other two versions people still liked, and if you only have two of the three ingredients the recipe will still work just fine.
I’m also using my homemade ranch seasoning in this recipe, which is, in my family’s opinion, better than what you can find in stores and literally takes 2 minutes to make.
And speaking of how long it takes to make – I actually timed myself when making this ranch dip and it took less than 7 minutes, and that was including getting everything out of the pantry and fridge.
All of this to say – and the same as my other recipes, like my garlic cashew dip and my salsa sour cream dip – this DIY ranch dip is truly tested and friends and family approved.

Grab these ingredients
(Note: the full ingredients list, including measurements, is provided in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.)
- Mayo – the mayo I used (Primal Kitchen, shown in the picture above) is a very thick mayo. If you use a different brand your dip may be a little thinner.
- Sour cream – use full fat sour cream for a richer taste. You can substitute light sour cream if you’d like.
- Greek yogurt – use whole plain Greek yogurt for the best taste.
- Lemon – you can use either fresh lemon juice (my preference) or bottled lemon juice, whichever you have on hand.
- Herbs and spices – dried parsley, dried dill, dried chives, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Kosher salt – salt is the most important ingredient for seasoning any food. In this case the recipe calls for Diamond Crystal kosher salt, which is my preferred salt. It is less salty by volume than other salts which means it leaves a little more room for error when salting your food. If you are using a different type of salt (kosher or otherwise), you’ll want to use this salt conversion chart from Epicurious to determine how much salt to use.
How to make ranch dip
(Note: please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the complete written instructions.)
I hesitate to call this a recipe because all you’re doing is measuring out the ingredients and stirring them together. But below are some pictures to show you what I mean.
What to eat with ranch dip
Try any of the options below for dipping!
- Raw veggies (my family loves baby carrots, bell peppers, and cauliflower);
- Potato chips, especially the wavy kind;
- Fries or grilled potato wedges (my kids also love grilled sweet potato wedges with this ranch dip); or
- Baked, fried, or grilled chicken – think chicken tender, chicken nuggets, or chicken wings.

7-Minute Homemade Dill Ranch Dip
Ingredients
- 2 tsp dried parsley
- 2 tsp dried dill
- 2 tsp dried chives
- ¾ tsp garlic powder
- ¾ tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- ¼ c sour cream
- ¼ c Greek yogurt
- ½ c mayo
- 1 tsp lemon juice from a fresh lemon, or bottled
Instructions
- Use a small bowl and measuring spoons to measure out the herbs, spices, and kosher salt with the appropriate measuring spoon and place it into the bowl. Use a whisk or other utensil to stir the ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Set it aside.
- Take out a medium-sized bowl. Use the measuring cups and a spatula to measure out the sour cream, Greek yogurt, and mayo and add each of them to the bowl. Add the seasoning mix in with the other ingredients, as well as the lemon juice too, either by squeezing a fresh lemon or from a bottle.
- Use the whisk to stir everything together until well combined. Serve immediately, or cover with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge until ready to eat.
