Editorial Guidelines
Hot Pan Kitchen is all about enjoying good, wholesome food on and off the grill that just happens to be gluten free. I seek out authorities on cooking and grilling techniques and ingredients to ensure a recipe’s success, adding my own twist influenced both by my dietary restrictions and culinary experience.
I take great pride in the work on the blog and aim to create original, accurate, authoritative, and well-researched content free of ethical concerns, conflicts, and misinformation.
Recipe Testing & Development
When testing recipes there are three main things I consider before bringing them to you.
- Does the recipe work? If the recipe doesn’t come out well in the same manner after multiple tries then it doesn’t go up on the site. If after several tries all is good, then it moves on to the next consideration.
- Is it gluten free (or can it be easily made gluten free)? I have been gluten free since 2015, and have extended family members who have been gluten free long before that. My immediate family however is not gluten free. The recipes on this site are for people who are AND aren’t gluten free to enjoy equally.
- Does it taste good? Sometimes gluten free foods don’t taste the same to non-gluten free people. So any recipe on this site has to taste good to not just me, but my immediate family too, which consists of two tween boys and my husband. We also all have different palates – I favor sweet, my husband likes salty, and my kids have relatively typical kid palates where they can’t handle anything that’s too overpowering. Sometimes I will also get my extended family to taste test, though that is on the rare side. But all the recipes on this site are tested and tasted by more than just me and if no one BUT me likes it, it’s back to the drawing board.
As you can tell, I do my best to ensure every recipe on my site is one both you and your family and friends will love. If you see a problem with a recipe, please email me at taryn@hotpankitchen.com
What Does “Wholesome” Mean?
On Hot Pan Kitchen, wholesome means focusing on whole, real foods most of the time. Many of the recipes use ingredients that aren’t processed, meaning they don’t have a list of ingredients because they ARE the ingredient (such as vegetables, spices, or gluten free grains).
Wholesome is different than healthy. I am not a registered dietician or doctor, so am not qualified to give health or medical advice. I just know what works for me and my family and what foods we tend to stay away from.
Does that mean you won’t find some processed foods as ingredients in my recipes? Of course not! Life is about balance. But on the whole the recipes here tend to have little to none of them.
One of the most notable cases is refined sugar; very few recipes on this site list it as an ingredient. Natural sugars such as maple syrup or honey are used, but typically not white or brown sugar. There are some dessert recipes that have sugar, but most of the recipes on this site tend to focus on other meals besides dessert.
Content Integrity
All of the recipes, posts, and pages on Hot Pan Kitchen are written by me, Taryn Solie. It is against my guidelines to publish automatically generated content using AI (artificial intelligence) writing tools such as ChatGPT. Recipes are written in great detail to be helpful to you, the reader, whether you’re experienced cooking and grilling or not. This often means including information such as:
- what tools or equipment to use;
- helpful tips to ensure success;
- substitutions or specific brands being used; and/or
- how to store a dish.
The goal is to ensure you successfully create my recipes time and time again!
