If your family loves burgers as much as mine does, then this burger sauce is for you.
Hamburgers are a staple in our house. Whether it’s ground chicken burgers, grilled paleo burgers, or sweet potato sliders – we like them all.
But what we like the best?
This super easy burger sauce.
It’s 4 ingredients, super tasty, incredibly easy to make, and doubles as a dipping sauce for fries.
This sauce is a takeoff of fry sauce, which is basically just mayo and ketchup and has a whole history of its own.
But in my opinion, this hamburger sauce is way better than fry sauce.
And honestly, you’re probably already putting most of these ingredients on your burger anyway, you’re just missing the secret ingredient to make it shine.
Read on to see what I’m talking about and to make your juicy delicious burger even better.
Grab these 4 ingredients!
(Note: the full ingredients list, including measurements, is provided in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.)
- Mayonnaise – I make this with avocado oil mayo, but you can use whatever type you like.
- Ketchup – the recipe calls for ketchup with no added sugar as it’s not as sweet as regular ketchup. The brand I use the most is True Made Ketchup. If you’re using regular ketchup you may want to add more mayo or mustard to balance out the sweetness of your ketchup.
- Yellow mustard – you want plain yellow mustard. If you’re using a different type like dijon or honey, you may need to adjust the taste of the sauce by adding more of another ingredient.
- Pickle juice – this is the secret ingredient! You want juice from a jar of dill pickles, not sweet or bread and butter pickles.
How to make burger sauce
(Note: please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the complete written instructions.)
This sauce is so easy to make it barely constitutes a recipe.
You just measure out the ingredients and whisk them together until it’s all combined and you’re done!
Burger sauce tips
While this sauce is easy to make, you may want the sauce to be a little sweeter or thicker than how the recipe is written. Here are some tips to adjust it to your liking:
- Thicken the sauce by adding more mayo.
- Sweeten the suace by adding more ketchup.
- Make the sauce more vinegary by adding more yellow mustard.
- Thin the sauce out more by adding either more pickle juice or water.
What can you use burger sauce with?
While this might be called burger sauce, you can use it in a variety of different ways! Try one of the following:
- slathered on your burger bun;
- as a dressing for a salad;
- as a dip for fries and tots; or
- on top of grilled chicken.
