Equipment

  • A toaster
  • A fork
  • A table knife

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread gluten free if needed
  • 3 slices of cooked bacon
  • 1 leaf of green leaf lettuce rinsed and dried
  • 1 small tomato stem removed
  • ½ a small avocado pit removed
  • A dollop of mayonnaise about ½ tbsp (optional)

Instructions

  • Toast the bread in a toaster, if desired. Otherwise use untoasted bread.
  • Cut slices into the half avocado and place them on one of the pieces of bread. Mash them with a fork and spread them out across the entire piece of bread.
  • Place the bacon on top of the avocado, breaking it into pieces if needed to make it fit on the bread.
  • Slice the tomato into thick slices and place them on top of the bacon.
  • Fold the lettuce until it's roughly the same size as the bread and place it on top of the tomato slices.
  • If using mayo, dip a table knife into the jar of mayonnaise, getting a small dollop. Spread the mayo onto the other empty slice of bread in an even layer.
  • Place the second slice of bread with the mayo on top of the bread with the lettuce and push down slightly to compress the sandwich together. Cut in half with a sharp knife or eat as is. Enjoy!

Notes

  • To keep your sandwich from sliding around and falling apart, the key is to smash your avocado on one side of the toast instead of keeping it in slices. The slices are unwieldy and likely to fall out, whereas if you smash the slices, the avocado will stick to the bread.
  • When layering the sandwich, you want the lettuce next to the bread (or the mayo) to keep it from sliding around too much, and you don't want the tomatoes touching the bread because it will make the bread soggy
  • A sharp, serrated knife is best to cut your sandwich in half. The bread and tomato will cut best with a serrated (or jagged) knife and the knife also have to be very sharp to cut through the chewy bacon.
  • If you want a heartier sandwich, try adding some sliced turkey or chicken to the sandwich.
  • Add a fried egg on top of the tomato and turn this into a breakfast sandwich!
  • Other foods you can add to your sandwich are cucumber slices, sprouts, sliced cheese, or pickles.
