It can be tough to find an easy side dish that tastes great but can feed a lot of different diets. When I started eating gluten-free in 2015 I found that out firsthand. But after working for several years to find and develop great recipes, I’m passing my knowledge on to you via gluten-free recipes that your family is going to eat up.
So let’s get into green beans! Simple veggie side dish ideas like this one are a great thing to have in your back pocket. And trust me, this one does not disappoint. These green beans and shallot are insanely easy to make and taste AMAZING. You wouldn’t think a dish with only 5 ingredients would be so flavorful, but by slow cooking the shallots it gives them a little caramelization that really brings the dish together.
This would be a perfect dish for a holiday dinner, and it’s great because it doesn’t require the oven, just a pan on the stove (much like my sauteed zucchini and mushrooms). Read on to see how simple these are to make and add it to your dinner menu!
Ingredients
- Green beans – you’ll want to use fresh ones, not frozen or canned. You can also use haricot verts, though you’ll want to read my tip section for slightly different cooking instructions
- Shallots – large ones are great as they’ll cook down quite a bit.
- Cooking fat – you can use ghee, butter, or oil in this recipe. I like to use ghee to saute the onions and avocado oil to finish cooking the dish
- Kosher salt – I used Diamond Crystal kosher salt in this recipe. If you use table salt you’ll want to cut the amount in half to begin with, then taste the dish and add more if desired.
